At the current state of sampling, linear playback of audio content and looping forward, backward, or alternating portions of the recording are commonplace. Once the sample is loaded, the large rectangular window presents a rounded-off, stylized overview of the waveform See Fig. The processing power to carry out such tasks is immense, and the first computer-based granulating software were decidedly non-real-time applications, processing a signal or creating a waveform, granulating it, and then rendering a processed file. Quanta is a full-featured ten-voice true stereo granular synthesizer, with up to a hundred 1000ms grains per voice, and full control over the grain state, with direct randomization and modulation of most parameters. An elongated window at the top center opens the preset browser with a click at the left.
Not saying it has something to do with quanta, but exactly after it crashed it appeared. In issue 121 of Tape Op, I wrote a review of Borderlands and GrainSpace, both pieces of software that use granular synthesis. As I often do, I raided my Native Instruments Absynth and Apple Loops sample libraries and produced some eminently useful and intriguing sounds. If you're in Berlin, please stop by and have a play. Whether we've succeeded or not is up to you folks to decide, of course, but we are really pleased with what we've come up with here, and are excited to show it to you. If you're in Berlin, please stop by and have a play. Easily add and remove breakpoints, and set loop points and curves.
This is not the first app to do this, but it feels like the most professional and in-depth implementation I've seen to date. Working these, the range of waveforms that can be defined is pretty much limitless. Changing the order, the duration, or the playback speed of the grains can create new sounds that bear little outward resemblance to the original content. The Matrix is an easy to use grid that sets up your modulation sources and destinations. Granulator independently processes and merges samples with synth and noise sources.
Factory Presets Quanta comes with a substantial collection of factory content, including Designer Presets from Marcus Fisher, Joseph Fraioli, Chris Carter, and Richard Devine. Control Quanta is customizable to your taste and playing style. If you copy a link instead of tapping it you can paste it into the Safari bar. Keeping thing even simpler than the granulator in terms of controls, the analogue oscillator could hardly be easier to program. Audio Damage Quanta forges granular with basic analog-modeled, subtractive synthesis and waveshaping to produce sounds useful to composers from the mainstream to the surrealistic and avant-garde end of the musical spectrum. Making granular synthesis easy is no small task, so kudos to Audio Damage on this app.
Feature Highlights: Granulate Quanta is a full-featured ten-voice true stereo granular synthesizer, with up to a hundred 1000ms grains per voice, and full control over the grain state, with direct randomization and modulation of most parameters. The analog and noise oscillators are not simply grafted onto the granulated sample; Osc In and Noise In knobs subject the modeled tones to granulation along with the sample section. Quanta, Our New Granular Synth. You get four envelopes to play with, and you can set their playback modes to one-shot, forward, or backward looping. Quanta is a 10-voice granular synthesizer built around an incredibly easy-to-use and capable granular engine, with a 'sidecar' oscillator that can be used in addition to the granular source, or mixed in with it, or instead of it. Our goal was to try to make granular synthesis as easy to understand and use as subtractive, and to make it as musical and playable as possible.
I still think there is a problem on my Particular iPad Pro 9. The theory behind Granular Synthesis is that a complex sound can comprise minute particles of sound, or grains. Iannis Xenakis was probably the first to find musical purpose in the reordering of minute slices of sound by cutting and splicing prerecorded tape. The coolest screen, however, is the Sample screen that has a real-time graphic of the sample being manipulated by the granular process. You can set playback direction, set a playback starting position, randomize it, set the stereo width, and more. Taken individually, the grains are too minute for us to audibly or graphically identify it as a component of the original sound any more than we could identify a sine-wave component of a sound reproduced by additive synthesis as part of a whole. Use your Linnstrument, Roli controller, Haken Continuum, or Madrona Labs Soundplane among others to directly access per-note pressure, pitch bend, and modulation.
I wonder if thats a necessary sacrifice or just an intentional move to justify a desktop purchase as well. The operation should be as easy as a comparable subtractive synthesizer. The oscillator section occupies the bottom half of every page for easy tweaking More about this shortly. This would be compatible with both 32 bit and 64 bit windows. Figure 1: Two instances of Quanta, side by side. With the Length knob, the size of the grains is variable between 1 millisecond and a full second.
Can be injected directly into grain engine. In addition to its granular engine, there is also an oscillator and noise source that can be added into the mix with the granular sounds. That sounds like interesting sound results! Granular synthesis may be one of the most interesting and, confoundingly, more difficult processes to achieve predictable results. These comically powerful envelope generators are essentially sequencers in their own right, and Quanta has four of them. We do not have a final price or release date at this time; there are still some things we need to tighten up, and we won't be shipping Quanta until it is solid as a rock.
