2003 Mazda Protege5 Consumer Reviews

2003 protege5

And after three years of ownership, with excellent dealership service, I have had no major complaints. But over-all, it's a nice, fun-to-drive, family car that has the potential for aftermarket upgrades for those who, like me, maybe disappointed with its lackluster engine. Its a lot of fun to drive especially on curvey mountain roads. If you want a reasonably priced used car that is fun to drive but practical look at the Protege5. Everyday i grow fonder and fonder of the look of this car even though its a wagon.

The streets of America, as it turns out, are an equal-opportunity playground. Cons: -Engine lacks gusto, especially 5000. In 5th gear at 70 mph, you'll be doing ~3200 rpm. There is cruise control, btw I can't speak for the auto. This is my 5th new mazda in 5 years. I have the 5-speed model with fully loaded option.

If you find a twisty road, even better. At least that's in the best part of the rev range, but it is a bit loud for mile after mile. Easy to handle and park -fun to drive. Updated exterior and interior components highlight the new model, giving it an edgier look to go with its 170-horsepower turbocharged engine. The engine is a bit weak, but handles very well in cornering, and gets great mileage. I love my protoge 5 5 out of 5 stars by rubyredp5 from berkeley, ca on Mon Jun 25 2007 Was tired of the honda civics and accord I had in the past as reliable and wonderful as they were.

It is no boy racer. . The Game Factory-built, warranted sport compacts raise the performance bar. Standard equipment, interior, fuel economy, headlights, etc. For the cost of these upgrades, versus the purchase cost of a newer model, I am quite satisfied with the upgrade option. The automatic does hunt for the right gear sometimes in the mountains on cruise control, but using the manual shifting road cures that.

I feel lucky looking around at the other similarly-priced cars other people my age drive, and feel lucky I went for this gem instead. That being said, it feels fine in the midrange, just don't expect easy overtaking without dropping a gear or two. There is a loyal club following, however, that provides ample information on the location of parts, ideas, and how-to modifications. Sometimes you're reminded this engine was for the sedan, which is ~250lbs lighter. I haven't seen these mentioned in other reviews here, so maybe it's just me, but they just fit perfectly. This is my 5th new mazda in 5 years. Only complaint was the intial battery didn't last very long. It is no boy racer. What a shame they don't make them any more. There is cruise control, btw I can't speak for the auto. This car is a total package its both reasonable and flat out insanely fun to drive. What a pleasure to drive, even 3 years later.

They're kind of concave without having aggressive bolsters, so there's no sliding around. You get the thrills of a much more expensive, faster car while doing errands at 35mph. It was well worth the money! Please check the owner's manual, visit a local dealership or look at the manufacturer's website to learn more about the specifics of the warranties that apply to a vehicle. Pros: -Steering, suspension, handling, this car just feels alive. The interior is just cool with the carbon styling around the radio. No surprises in the little things with this car.

I haven't seen these mentioned in other reviews here, so maybe it's just me, but they just fit perfectly. For a driving enthusiast the handling and braking are quite decent; so is the interior layout and ergonomics. Performance wise it lives up to its look and handles great although the engine could be a bit faster. Road trips, camping, moving, lugging furniture, naps, tailgating.
